YKI Research Strategy

In the 2009-2011 period, Cleantech has been chosen as a single point of focus, or theme.

Cleantech will arguably be a major focus area for technology development in the 21st century. Clean technology development will probably accelerate with after-effects from the capital market disaster, where companies striving for energy efficiencies will, on average, have a competitive advantage through a survival of the fittest type of process. A larger number of our members are expected to adopt energy efficiency and other cleantech strategies during 2009-2011, and so we will be better placed to use surface chemistry to serve them.

In most cases, use of these technologies results in lower cost, and that is why the Cleantech sector is booming, from an investment point of view. Cleantech is at the core of true needs driven research and innovation trends, has its basis in sound scientific, economic, environmental, energy and health principles and is therefore sustainable.

Technology and Application Focus Areas
  • Formulation technologies and applications
  • Interfacial technologies and applications (formerly called Surface design)
  • Materials and nanotechnologies and applications
  • Controlled delivery and release technologies and applications
  • Clean technologies and applications (“Cleantech”) – NEW
Knowledge and Understanding Focus Areas
  • Adsorption from multicomponent solutions onto heterogeneous surfaces
  • Advanced dispersions
  • Interfaces in contact and motion
  • Hybrid, composite and porous materials synthesis
  • Bio-surface chemistry
