Press release: SP concentrates chemical expertise
05.11.2012. SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden
On 1 January 2013, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden will merge its subsidiary, YKI, Institute for Surface Chemistry, and its chemicals business in Borås into a single unit within the SP Group. The aim is to create a strong centre of excellence within the field of chemistry. The integration means that YKI will cease to exist as a separate company, but the business will continue to operate from Stockholm.
The new unit will have around 160 employees, almost half of whom have a PhD degree. The unit will have a good balance between research, innovation and services, with emphasis on the former two areas.
“I strongly believe in the merger. We will be able to develop the Group's chemical expertise in a much better way in the future. The breadth of the new unit will make us much more attractive as an employer. We will also become a more attractive partner for industry and universities , both nationally and internationally,” says SP's CEO Maria Khorsand.
