Formulation technology in the spotlight

In the interview, published in the April 2010 issue of Scandinavia's largest chemistry magazine - Kemivärlden, Jonas Gustafsson emphasizes the importance of formulation technology and to what a large extent formulation is really all about surface and colloid science. He says that here has been a gap between trial and error based formulation and academic work on surface and colloid chemistry. As an example articles on surface chemistry in scientific magazines rarely mention the word formulation. However, the gap is closing and the two sectors have a lot to benefit from each other.

Formulation technologies is one of YKI's research focus areas. As Dr. Jonas Gustafsson is Area Manager Surfactant Science and Rapid Formulation, he works with many client assignments and projects regarding formulation. He has himself worked in industry with formulation and stresses how important phase diagrams are in formulating industrial products. Based on these diagrams the composition of the mixture can be changed in a controlled way in order to achieve the desired product properties.

Dr. Gustafsson is currently working intensively with preparations for two major conferences in the formulation field to be held in Stockholm the second week in June this year - Formula VI and Nanformulation 2010.
