Knowledge focus areas

Multicomponent Systems

Multicomponent Systems develops methodology and techniques that allow the tracking of the location of individual molecular types in multicomponent solutions and their importance for interfacial phenomena such as adsorption and wetting synergism, dispersibility, adhesion and lubrication.

Dispersed Systems

YKI has a high level of knowledge in emulsions and foams. Research on the subfields of liquid-liquid and liquid-air dispersions including emulsions and foams is reasonably mature with much knowledge disseminated to industry.

Interfaces in Contact and Motion

Interfaces in Contact and Motion cover the areas of Tribology, interfacial rheology, adhesion and long-range surface forces.

Synthesis and Characterization of Structured Materials

In particular YKI focuses on new nanomaterials and their hybrids, i.e. Nanoparticles, Inorganic/organic optical pigments, Nanoporous and nanostructured materials and Structured materials in foods and pharmaceuticals.

Biointerfaces and Biosurface Chemistry

Current projects in the field of Biosurface Chemistry are Marine antifouling paints and coatings, Bio-membrane coatings for delivery and release, DNA and protein sensor development, Protein and peptide adsorption on various surfaces, Implant surface modification etc.
